Case Study

Client: London Strategic Housing, a division of Network Housing Association.

Project: Archway, North London

Need: An affordable housing solution, primarily to serve NHS key workers from Whittington hospital. The building was to be located close to the hospital, have easy access to public transport and be designed to provide a quality living environment that satisfied life style requirements of the intended occupants.

Solution: Working in partnership with London Strategic Housing and Hill Partnership, Rollalong manufactured and installed a modular four storey building. The building solution was designed to provide single living accommodation, in a cluster flat arrangement for 124 key workers. Each studio bedroom has access to cable TV, internet and telephone connections, is fully furnished and has an en-suite bathroom comprising a shower, toilet and wash basin.

Typically each cluster flat comprises of 6 bedrooms and a shared kitchen and communal area. This offers the residents a sense of community whilst still maintaining their private and secure living areas.

The building was constructed on a 'brownfield' site. The modular timber frame units were manufactured in Rollalong’s quality controlled factory, with all furnishings and M&E services fitted prior to delivery to site and installation.

Externally the building has been finished with part brick and render. The residents also have ample secure cycle parking and private rear garden.

The building design combined cellular and sectional modular structures and was procured using the new Project Partnering Contract (PPC 2000), a multi party contract between all of the key partners.

Duration: 40 weeks in total
