Client: Wiltshire County Council
Project: Ashton
Keynes CE Primary School, Wiltshire
Need: Replace
temporary classrooms with a new permanent building, which will link
to an existing building and provides an improved learning environment.
Strict planning and conservation requirements are in place as the
existing school is a listed building.
Solution: A
'Best Value' approach was taken in delivering this project. A single
storey Cotswold stonework clad modular building with a 45 degree
angled slate roof was provided. The work was carried out during
term time and the safety of the children was paramount for all concerned.
The building was manufactured in Rollalong's quality controlled
factory, including the internal fit out and installation of all
mechanical and electrical services prior to delivery to site, erection
and connection to mains services.
Duration: From winning the contract late February 2001 to
the building being handed over in June 2001, the project took just
16 weeks to complete.
Client comment: "This has been one of our more
demanding projects. As work had to be undertaken during a school
term, due to the reduced time required on site we decided that a
modular building best suited our needs. Bearing in mind the difficult
access and limited site area the level of organisation and standard
of workmanship achieved by Rollalong has been very high."
Arthur Williams – Principal Building Surveyor, Wiltshire
County Council
"We were initially daunted by the idea of running a school
on a building site. The building was, however, finished with a minimum
of problems and we are delighted."
