Services Unit at Northwood, the MOD operating through WS Atkins

Northwood, Single Living Accommodation, Phase 2
Need: To
provide quality single living accommodation for 256 service personnel
to replace redundant living quarters and reduce the need for off-site
accommodation provision.
Solution: A
three storey temporary modular building was provided. The building
provides an additional 256 bedrooms for defence personnel and includes
communal areas such as laundry and television rooms.
Each bedroom is fully furnished with a single bed, wardrobes, drawers
and a desk. The room also contains it’s own en-suite bathroom
comprising of a pedestal sink, wc and shower.
Externally finished in stone cladding, the turnkey project included
all mechanical and electrical work, landscaping the grounds, external
groundworks and services such as path lighting. Internally, the
building was supplied fully furnished including the provision of
televisions, laundry equipment and fire equipment such as fire extinguishers.
As with previously supplied accommodation Phase 2 was linked into
an existing Building Management System.
The building was manufactured in Rollalong’s quality controlled
factory, including the internal fit out and installation of all
mechanical and electrical services prior to delivery to site, erection
and connection to mains services.
Duration: The contract was secured late November 2001 and
the building was handed over just 4.5 months later.
