For your convenience the FAQ list has been divided into two broad categories. Please select the most appropriate from the drop-down menu on the right:

Modular Buildings

Q. How long does a typical building take to build?

A. It can take as less as 6 weeks, however build programmes typically average between 12-20 weeks and largely dependable upon the buildings design specification. Speed is a major benefit associated with modular buildings and build times compare very favourably against traditional construction methods.

Q. Can a Rollalong modular building be easily extended?

A. Yes, because of the standardisation of the timber framed components and facing materials used, extending the building can be simply achieved. It is also relatively straightforward to convert a single storey building in to a double storey building, however if a future vertical extension is anticipated it is advisable to design this in at the beginning, to allow for sufficient compensation in foundations and structural components.

Q. What is the life expectancy of a Rollalong modular building?

A. We offer three main options:

i) A 60 year life building with external materials such as facing brickwork outer leaf to the walls and concrete roof tiles. This building not only take on the appearance of a traditional building, but also provides flexibility in architectural design and offers a permanent building solution.

ii) A 40 year life building, which is relocatable and provide a flexible solution to a space requirement which does not compromise on standards of internal fit-out.

iii) A 10 year design life building, which is completely relocatable and provides a cost effective temporary space solution.

Q. Is the internal partitioning arrangement flexible enough to enable alterations to the internal space plan to suit future needs?

A. In most cases the roof or first floor (in multi-storey structures) is normally clear spanned. Only on some larger buildings occasionally some of the partitions are load bearing elements, thus giving greater flexibility of layout as required.

Q. Does sound travel between rooms?

A. Typical designs allow for 46 Decibels sound reduction, equivalent to a single brick wall, however there are designs which can assist further in enhancing the control of sound transmission where it is required e.g. Music or drama rooms.

Q. Are modular buildings hot in the summer and cold in the winter?

A. Absolutely not. Rollalong’s modular building designs, compliant with Building Regulations and with modern roof and wall structures control a building’s heat gain and loss and ensure that high levels of thermal efficient and subsequent energy costs are achieved.
