Centre for Mental & Cognitive Health Unit (CMCH)

Headley Court, world renowned centre for the rehabilitation of wounded Forces personnel has been in the news in recent months as it is the focus of the Help for Heroes charity campaign to develop a Swimming Pool Complex.

Located in close proximity to the entrance of the new complex is the new CMCH building. This building needed to be developed and installed rapidly so as to allow the major works of Swimming Complex to be commenced on time. Clearly a volumetric system was a natural choice. Working with the successful team built up on the Wood House, 58 bed unit, the 6 bay structure was developed, procured and installed without delay.

The design is based upon the same module sizes used in Wood House, but the consultation rooms required larger room areas and so a number of the modules were delivered open sided to allow cross module rooms to be formed.

Internally the CMCH Unit features a factory installed heat pump plant heating and cooling system, anti bacterial wall linings and a range of staff and patient facilities.

The unit is located in a small courtyard and the external finish was required to be sensitive to the existing Edwardian architecture. The external brick skin and clay tiled roof allowed the finished building to blend in.
