What does Modular Building Mean at Rollalong?

Volumetric manufacture, Modular, Sectional Building, Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), Off-site, there are a bewildering number of terms in the marketplace as companies jostle to associate themselves with what is essentially stages of, or entire buildings made in a factory, with all the benefits that off-site construction generates.

Why Change From Established Construction Methods?

The necessity to adopt modular construction was originally highlighted by the Lord Egan report “Rethinking Construction” aimed at achieving exceptional improvements in the design, customer satisfaction and sustainability of the UK construction industry.

The task force proposed seven targets for improvement, which underpin “Rethinking Construction” namely:

Target

Target Achieved by Rollalong

Reduce capital cost

Achieved – Greater cost certainty

Reduce construction time

Achieved – 30% faster than traditional build

Better predictability

Achieved – Reduced risk from external factors

Fewer defects

Achieved – Quality controlled factory build

Fewer accidents

Achieved – Safer working environment

Increase productivity

Achieved – Efficient manufacturing processes

Increase turnover and profit

Achieved – Earlier completion dates

Modular Construction is the Future of Building

Modules are manufactured in a quality controlled and efficiently managed factory resulting in fewer defects, fewer accidents, better predictability and increased productivity.

Whilst the modules are manufactured in the factory all site works such as foundations and roadways can be completed simultaneously which significantly reduces the project programme time.

The modules are delivered to site and the final stages of construction are completed.

Key Success Factor to Modular Construction – Module Size

Rollalong builds some of the largest modules in the industry, the huge multi-room modules, mean fewer modules are required and consequently fewer transport journeys (less carbon), less craneage and connections, less working at height and a faster completion time.

Rollalong modules can be a variety of sizes but the most off-site construction benefits are gained from the largest modules. Importantly the modules are all designed specifically to fit on transport with standard delivery charges.
