The necessity to adopt modular construction was originally highlighted by the Lord Egan report “Rethinking Construction” aimed at achieving exceptional improvements in the design, customer satisfaction and sustainability of the UK construction industry.
The task force proposed seven targets for improvement, which underpin “Rethinking Construction” namely:

Reduce capital cost |

Modules are manufactured in a quality controlled and efficiently managed factory resulting in fewer defects, fewer accidents, better predictability and increased productivity.
Whilst the modules are manufactured in the factory all site works such as foundations and roadways can be completed simultaneously which significantly reduces the project programme time.
The modules are delivered to site and the final stages of construction are completed.
Rollalong builds some of the largest modules in the industry, the huge multi-room modules, mean fewer modules are required and consequently fewer transport journeys (less carbon), less craneage and connections, less working at height and a faster completion time.
Rollalong modules can be a variety of sizes but the most off-site construction benefits are gained from the largest modules. Importantly the modules are all designed specifically to fit on transport with standard delivery charges.
| Standard room or en-suite | Double room and corridor |
| 3m high, 2-3m wide and 2-6m long | 2.8-3.5m high, 3.6-4.5m wide and 12-17m long |
Additional delivery charges are incurred with any modules over the following sizes 3.5m high, 5m wide and 17m long.
